Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham vying for Thiago Fernandez

Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham are reportedly interested in 20-year-old Velez Sarsfield winger Thiago Fernandez, called the ‘new Angel Di Maria’.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Thiago Fernandez is gaining popularity in the Premier League. The 20-year-old Velez Sarsfield winger has drawn comparisons to Angel Di Maria, with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur keen on securing his services.

Who is Thiago Fernandez?

Thiago Fernandez is the latest Argentine prospect to rise in prominence. A native of Buenos Aires, the South American winger spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Velez Sarsfield. The youngster’s style of play has helped him draw comparisons to Angel Di Maria.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a decent 2024/25 season, chipping in with five goals and eight assists in 30 appearances across all competitions thus far this term. Meanwhile, Fernandez’s progress at Velez Sarsfield has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Chelsea’s links with the Argentine winger are perplexing, considering they signed Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto this past summer. However, amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Mykhailo Mudryk, the Blues could justify pursuing Fernandez next year. As for Liverpool, the Reds are scouring the market for a wide attacker, as Mohamed Salah has yet to commit his long-term future to the club.

Recent reports have linked Liverpool with several wide attackers, including Leroy Sane. However, Thiago Fernandez is also a viable target for Liverpool. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in the ‘new Angel Di Maria’ makes sense. While the 20-year-old is primarily a left-winger, he can also reprise other roles in the final third.

Tottenham can also do with a player like Fernandez, considering Son Heung-min is on the wrong side of 30. While the Tottenham captain is not going anywhere anytime soon, Fernandez can learn the ropes from him before taking over from the South Korean forward.

It might still be early days in the race to secure Thiago Fernandez’s services. However, with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham keen on signing the 20-year-old Argentine winger, a move to the Premier League might be on the cards.
