Manchester City to resume contract talks with Ederson

Manchester City are set to resume contract renewal talks with goalkeeper Ederson Moraes, who came close to leaving for Saudi Arabia.

According to TBR, Manchester City are poised to resume contract talks with Ederson Moraes in the next phase. The goalkeeper who cost them £35 million many years ago was on the verge of leaving the club for a new adventure in Saudi Arabia, and now he could be eager to listen to his current club on what they have to offer.

Ederson contract talks to restart?

The summer window saw Manchester City being largely inactive in the market, although they did manage to sign Savio from sister-club Troyes and free agent Ilkay Gundogan. The big worry during the window was the possibility of losing critical stars like Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Ederson Moraes, although all of those stars stayed.

Ederson was the subject of heavy interest from Saudi Arabia, which saw Al-Nassr abandon their chase after Manchester City rejected their offer. The Saudi side was prepared to make Ederson one of the highest-paid players in the world.

Al-Ittihad soon followed the keeper and made an offer, only for Manchester City to turn it down. In the background might have been a bit frustrated as he could have been tempted by the offer on the table, as Man City continued to ask for a vital transfer fee in exchange.

Manchester City had planned on contract talks with Ederson but had decided to wait to find out how the summer window transpired. With the market now shut, the club are eager to resume contract talks and find a solution with the keeper to keep him beyond his 2026 expiry date.

Will Ederson sign a new deal?

Signing a new deal will more or less scupper a chance for Ederson to leave for a Saudi adventure next season. He will be tied to the club for longer than he currently is, meaning Manchester City could continue to ask for a substantial fee for the keeper who cost them £35 million many years ago.

For now, his performances have warranted an extension, and only time will tell whether he is happy for his current terms to run until next summer or secure his future at the Etihad. There could also be the element of Manchester City’s impending court case with the Premier League as well as the future of Pep Guardiola, as the Brazilian keeper might take his time before committing to a new deal here.
