Chelsea will reportedly look to sign a right-back next year, with 22-year-old SC Freiburg defender Kiliann Sildillia emerging as a target.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Kiliann Sildillia is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are keen on signing a right-back in the January transfer window. So, several candidates have emerged on the West London club, with the 22-year-old SC Freiburg full-back one of the options.
Who is Kiliann Sildillia?
Kiliann Sildillia has established himself as one of the best young full-backs in the Bundesliga since breaking into the first-team squad at SC Freiburg. A native of Metz, the Frenchman spent most of his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at FC Metz before moving to Germany in July 2020.
The 22-year-old made his first-team bow for SC Freiburg in the 2021/22 campaign and has been a regular for the Bundesliga outfit in the last two seasons. Sildillia has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for the Breisgau Brazilians while chipping in with one goal and three assists.
The French full-back was a part of the squad that won the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, turning out five times for France while chipping in with a goal and an assist. Meanwhile, Kiliann Sildillia’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, including Chelsea.
London calling?
Chelsea’s interest in Kiliann Sildillia is understandable. The Blues have had only one recognised right-back for most of the last 12 months due to Reece James’s persistent injury problems. In addition, recent reports have claimed that the Chelsea captain is a target for Real Madrid.
So, it behoves Chelsea to invest in a right-back next year, although they might dip their toes in the market in the January transfer window. Several candidates have thus emerged on the West London club’s radar, with Sildillia a viable target.
Some of the other candidates on Chelsea’s wishlist are Jules Kounde, Jeremie Frimpong, and Michael Kayode. It will be interesting to see which right-back becomes the top target for the Premier League heavyweights as they look to bolster their options in the January transfer window.
