Liverpool failed with an attempt to sign Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe back in 2022 despite agreeing personal terms with the French international.
According to a report from L’Equipe, Liverpool were on the verge of signing Kylian Mbappe in the summer of 2022. The Reds had agreed personal terms with the French forward but they couldn’t strike a deal with Paris Saint-Germain to complete the transfer.
Mbappe recently completed his long-awaited move to Real Madrid. While he couldn’t secure a move to Los Blancos back in 2022, he ended up joining them as a free agent in the summer following the expiry of his contract at PSG.
He has already won a trophy at his new club and has started the new season in a promising fashion. While Mbappe is quite happy playing for the team in white, the French international could have been a part of the Liverpool first team.
He was on the verge of joining the Merseyside club back in 2022 but the move eventually collapsed. Mbappe was pushing for a move to Madrid back then but he ended up signing a new two-year deal in May. However, he felt betrayed by the club as they didn’t fulfil their promises and wanted to leave that summer.

PSG were in no mood to negotiate with Real Madrid and this is when Liverpool emerged as a potential destination. Jurgen Klopp was keen on having him in their squad. The Reds had even agreed personal terms with the 25-year-old.
After securing the green light from the player they submitted a €200 million (£169 million) for his services. But, it wasn’t good enough as PSG director Antero Henrique wanted €400 million to part ways with the World Cup winner. But, it was beyond Liverpool’s financial capabilities, and as a result, the move collapsed.
While the report suggests the Reds tabled a €200 million offer, there are two different versions of the story from the French club’s camp. The first suggests the Premier League outfit were asked to fork out a world record fee of €400 million while the second suggests the Merseyside club never submitted an official bid for his signature.
Irrespective of whether the Reds submitted an offer or not, they surely had an agreement with the player. But, the move didn’t go through and after two more years with the French giants, he has finally joined his dream club, Real Madrid.
