La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly rekindled their interest in 29-year-old French international Mike Maignan regarding a possible 2025 summer move.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Mike Maignan is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions want to sign a goalkeeper in the 2025 summer transfer window. So, they have set their sights on the 29-year-old AC Milan goalkeeper amid the Serie A club’s struggles to tie him to a new contract.
Mike Maignan and his career so far
Mike Maignan has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world in the last decade. A native of Cayenne, French Guiana, he spent his formative years in France, starting his youth career at Villiers le Bel JS before graduating from the youth division at Paris Saint-Germain.
However, the Frenchman could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at PSG and instead rose in prominence during his spell with LOSC Lille. The 29-year-old spent half a dozen years with Les Dogue before joining AC Milan in July 2021, going from strength to strength in the last three years.
The French international has turned out 113 times thus far for AC Milan wihile keeping 44 clean sheets. Meanwhile, Mike Maignan’s progress in the last decade has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs like Manchester City were keen on signing him this past summer. However, he is now a target for Real Madrid.
La Liga move beckons?
Real Madrid’s interest in Mike Maignan is understandable. The reigning La Liga champions are keen on signing a goalkeeper in the 2025 summer transfer window amid uncertainties around the future of Andriy Lunin. With the Ukrainian international yet to commit his long-term future to Real Madrid, they should identify a long-term replacement.
Maignan, who has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a long time, has thus emerged as a viable target. Another factor that makes him an appealing target for Los Blancos is his stalling contract talks with AC Milan. While the Frenchman wants €7-8 million-a-year wages, the Serie A giants do not want to pay more than €5.5 million per season.
So, Real Madrid might have a window of opportunity to sign the 29-year-old French goalkeeper from AC Milan next year. However, the Merengues also have other options on their radar, with Brighton & Hove Albion shot-stopper Bart Verbruggen another target for the club.
