Newcastle United might agree to include a release clause in a proposed new contract for star striker Alexander Isak.
According to TBR, Newcastle United are willing to include a release clause in Alexander Isak’s new contract. The Magpies are eager to tie down the Sweden international on a new deal and could include the clause at the striker’s insistence.
Alexander Isak’s contract to have a release clause
Premier League clubs are not widely known to have release clauses, as opposed to their La Liga counterparts, where the rules on player contracts are different. More often than not, English sides have been able to dictate terms during sales and set prices based on their own valuations.
In recent years, the tide has changed in favour of many players wanting a release clause. Such an agreement allows those stars to make consolidated decisions, while their parent clubs also benefit if a rival pays the set valuation in contracts. Some notable players who have exit clauses include Jack Grealish, Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, and Bruno Guimaraes.
Newcastle United included an exit clause in Guimaraes’ contract at the player’s request when signing an extension earlier this year. The Magpies set a £100 million clause in his contract, which was valid for a limited period during the summer window. They could now do the same with Alexander Isak, as they are confident of agreeing a new deal with the Swedish striker.
The 24-year-old had plenty of suitors, including Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea, although Newcastle managed to keep hold of his services beyond the summer window. They deemed the player untouchable, although had any of those interested sides come in with a humungous offer, their stance could have changed.
Alexander Isak demands a release clause
Much like his Newcastle colleague, Isak has reported that he demanded a release clause as part of his conditions before signing a new deal. So far, he has been taking time before deciding on an extension and will look to have a reasonable release clause, as there could still be problems with a higher amount, as seen in the case of Victor Osimhen.
With the new deal, Isak could join Guimaraes as the club’s joint-top earner, as the club are eager to reward him for a fantastic season the last time out. The 24-year-old managed to hit 21 goals in the 2023-24 season, and he opened his account for the new campaign with a late winner against Spurs before the international break.
