Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes has been linked with a move away from the Premier League club this summer.
According to a report by Football Insider, Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Portuguese international Matheus Nunes, and they have held preliminary talks with Premier League champions Manchester City regarding a loan-to-buy move for him.
The 26-year-old midfielder joined Manchester City from Wolves in 2023 for a fee of around £53 million. However, recent reports have claimed thst they are ready to sanction his departure this summer, especially after the return of Ilkay Gundogan. Nunes has not been able to make his mark at Manchester City, and his performances have been rather underwhelming.
There is no doubt that he has the physical and technical attributes to develop into a quality player, and a move to Atletico Madrid could be ideal for him. The 26-year-old midfielder needs a fresh start, and a move to La Liga would be the opportunity he needs.
Apparently, the Spanish giants are hoping to sign him on loan with an option to buy. It remains to be seen whether Manchester City are willing to accept such an offer. Atletico Madrid have recently strengthened their midfield by signing former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, and it seems that they are looking to add to the midfield unit further.
Nunes has previously proven himself in the Premier League with Wolves, and there is no doubt that he would be a top class acquisition for Atletico Madrid if he can regain his form and confidence.
Loan move would be ideal for all parties
As for Manchester City, they will look to recoup a substantial amount of money for him after spending £53 million to sign him. They will be fully aware of the fact that they will have to accept a loss on the player after his performances since joining the club. However, they are unlikely to sanction his departure for cheap. It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can work out an agreement that benefits them both.
If Manchester City cannot find a permanent destination for him this summer, it would be ideal to loan him out to a big club so that he can compete at high level and play more often. If he manages impress in La Liga, it could inflate his market value next summer, and Manchester City might be able to offload him for a reasonable amount of money.
