Ipswich Town are closing in on another massive signing before the end of the transfer window. According to a report from HITC, the newly-promoted Premier League outfit have agreed terms with Chelsea to sign Armando Broja on a season-long loan.
While Broja has shown immense potential coming up the ranks at Chelsea, he has not been able to establish himself in their first team. He has been a part of their senior team since the summer of 2022. But injuries have hampered his progress.
Chelsea want to sell Armando Broja
The young attacking prospect was sent out on loan to Fulham for the second half of last season. However, even that did not work out according to plan. While he still has four years left on his deal, Chelsea no longer count on the 22-year-old Albanian international, and they have been looking to get him off their books.
The Blues’ latest signing, Pedro Neto, was handed Broja’s jersey number, which was a clear indication that he is not a part of Enzo Marseca’s team. He has not been training with the first team and is all set to leave the club before the end of the window.
Everton and West Ham United are two Premier League outfits who have been linked with the Albanian striker. The Merseyside club are looking for someone who can support Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top, while the Hammers want a long-term replacement for Michail Antonio despite signing Niclas Füllkrug.
While Everton and West Ham were pushing for his signature, Ipswich Town have managed to beat the competition. They have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign the 22-year-old on a season-long loan. Kieran McKenna’s have already added a lot of quality to their attack. But the Tractor Boys still seek more firepower, and they feel Broja could be a great fit for their team.
Broja to join Ipswich Town in the coming days
The youngster has agreed to join the newly promoted Premier League club and he is expected to undergo his medical in Suffolk today. It won’t be a straightforward loan deal as there will be a number of options that could see it become mandatory for Ipswich Town to make it permanent next summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, there is a mandatory purchase clause in the deal in case Ipswich Town manage to survive in the English top flight. The total package will then be worth over £30 million and for now, the newly-promoted outfit will be covering his wages until June.
