Premier League heavyweights Liverpool believe they can sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres for a sum lower than his release clause in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by O Jogo, as relayed by Paisley Gates, Viktor Gyokeres is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Sporting CP striker is also a target for Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur. However, the Reds are confident they can sign the Swedish international for around €70 million instead of his release clause of €100 million.
The rapid rise of Viktor Gyokeres
Viktor Gyokeres has established himself as one of the most prolific attackers in the world since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City last summer. The Swede was already a productive striker during his time at the EFL Championship club, often competing for the Golden Boot in the second division.
However, very few would have envisioned Gyokeres’s impact for Sporting CP, with the striker amassing 43 goals and 15 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions thus far for the Portuguese outfit. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old striker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting top clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham.
A man in demand
The Swedish international has been on Arsenal’s radar for several months. Recent reports have pointed to the Gunners being the front-runners to secure Viktor Gyokeres’s services in the summer transfer window. So, with Gabriel Jesus struggling to be prolific, the former Coventry City striker can be a top-notch addition to the Arsenal squad.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres is understandable. The Blues have been keen on signing a striker in the summer transfer window after Nicolas Jackson blew hot and cold last season. Gyokeres is thus a viable target for Chelsea, although Liverpool will look to beat the competition to his signature.
The Swedish international has a release clause worth €100 million in his contract with Sporting CP. However, Liverpool will look to secure Viktor Gyokeres’s services in a deal worth around €70 million. As for Tottenham, they did not replace Harry Kane with a productive striker last summer.
So, Gyokeres is an option worth considering for the North London club. However, with Liverpool hoping to sign the 26-year-old Swede for around €70 million, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham must step up to sign him from Sporting CP.
