Aston Villa are in touch with Nico Williams’s camp, which is alert to the possibility of hijacking Barcelona’s chances of landing the winger.
According to TEAMtalk, the Nico Williams saga has a new entrant in the form of Aston Villa, who are set to revive their interest in the winger. Unai Emery’s side are in touch with the Spaniard’s camp amid reports that Barcelona’s pursuit of the Euro 2024 winner could still be hijacked.

Aston Villa continue to make ruthless transfer decisions, which could see the club improve upon their current form and comply with PSR rules. The sale of Douglas Luiz was designed for the latter, while Moussa Diaby’s upcoming move to Saudi Arabia is a concerted decision to help bring in an upgrade.
Villa are now linked with Nico Williams again after failing to sign the winger in January. Unai Emery is keen on bringing the UEFA Euro 2024 champion, who has a modest €55 million release clause. Through Sporting Director Monchi, the club are in touch with his camp, as they also have the financial capacity to broker such a deal and pay competitive wages.
The report also adds to what we already know so far in the Nico Williams saga: Chelsea are keen on the winger, while Barcelona are considered overwhelming favourites. That does not mean Aston Villa cannot compete, as the story suggests there is still ample room for a hijack of sorts in this saga.
There is concerted interest from London giants Arsenal and Chelsea. The latter are confident about bringing the attacker, while the Gunners are waiting in the wings with patience.
Barcelona still favourites for Nico Williams?
Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently confirmed the club has the financial means to complete the Nico Williams deal as they are in a confident mood about their chances. The player reportedly prefers a switch to the Catalans, which is also why none of the English sides have made a concerted offer or triggered his release clause.
Despite Laporta’s claims, there are still lingering doubts about Barcelona’s finances and whether they will be able to make the release clause payment or offer Williams high wages. Hence, there’s plenty of room for the likes of Aston Villa, Chelsea, and even Arsenal to try and hijack the move for the €55 million-rated winger.
