Everton will reportedly look to bring former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez back to the Premier League after raising the bid to sign the 28-year-old from Galatasaray.
According to a report by Turkish outlet Ajansspor, Davinson Sanchez is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Jarrad Branthwaite. And they have raised their bid to sign the 28-year-old former Tottenham defender from Galatasaray.
Davinson Sanchez and his career so far
Davinson Sanchez has made reasonable progress since joining Galatasaray from Tottenham Hotspur last summer. A native of Caloto, the Colombian international spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the youth division at Atletico Nacional. However, his stock soared during his short spell with Ajax, alerting high-profile clubs across Europe.
Tottenham came calling in August 2017, and he was a regular for the North London club in the first three seasons. However, Sanchez’s stock started falling in the 2020/21 season before he became a squad option. So, the 28-year-old needed a fresh start, which came at Galatasaray.
However, while Sanchez featured 32 times and managed over 2,000 minutes of game time, fitness issues plagued him, and he started 25 games across all competitions. But that was enough to capture the attention of several well-known clubs, particularly in the Premier League. Recent reports have linked him with Newcastle United, with Everton also interested in him.
Premier League return in the pipeline?
Everton’s interest in Davinson Sanchez is understandable. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Jarrad Branthwaite. With Manchester United still keen on signing the Englishman despite failing with two bids, Everton should search for a replacement.
Several candidates, including Omar Alderete, have thus emerged on Everton’s radar, with Sanchez also a viable target. The latest update has revealed that the Toffees have improved their bid to bring the 28-year-old former Tottenham defender back to the Premier League.
It is unclear if the latest offer for Sanchez will do the trick and convince Galatasaray to sell him. Nevertheless, the Colombian international is one of the options for Everton to bolster the defensive unit if Branthwaite leaves in the summer transfer window.
