Chelsea fail with £42 million bid to sign Samu Omorodion

Chelsea recently submitted a bid worth £42 million to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid for Samu Omorodion, with Los Rojiblancos rejecting the offer.

According to a report by The Sun, Samu Omorodion is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues have submitted another bid, this time worth £42 million, to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid. However, the Colchoneros have turned the proposal down as they want to recoup £70 million by selling the Spanish attacking sensation in the summer transfer window.

Samu Omorodion and his story

Samu Omorodion is the latest highly-rated whizkid to rise in prominence in La Liga. The league produces top-class prospects every year, with the latest season seeing the rise of Fermin Lopez, Marc Guiu, and Juanlu, among others. As for Omorodion, the Spaniard is a native of Melilla and graduated from the youth division at Granada CF.

Atletico Madrid signed the 20-year-old attacking sensation last summer and immediately loaned him to Deportivo Alaves. The youngster did not take long to settle down at the Basque club and chipped in with eight goals and one assist in only 2,014 minutes of game time across 35 outings in all competitions for Alaves.

Meanwhile, Samu Omorodion’s progress in the 2023/24 season has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, particularly from the Premier League. The most recent updates have linked the Spanish youth international with Chelsea.

London calling?

Chelsea’s interest in Samu Omorodion is understandable. The Blues have already signed one highly-rated attacking prospect from La Liga, with Marc Guiu arriving at Stamford Bridge from Barcelona. However, they remain in the market for a centre-forward, with several candidates emerging on their radar.

Chelsea recently failed with a bid to secure Samu Omorodion’s services. The latest proposal was worth £42 million, but it has not convinced Atletico Madrid to part ways with the 20-year-old Spanish attacking sensation. The Colchoneros are holding out for £70 million, which might present issues for Chelsea.

While Omorodion is a highly-rated attacking prospect, coughing up £70 million might be a tall order. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea will present another improved bid to sign the Spaniard from Atletico Madrid.
