Real Sociedad are reportedly close to signing Manchester City outcast Sergio Gomez on a four-year contract and €9 million in fees.
According to Fichajes, Real Sociedad are close to bringing Sergio Gomez from Manchester City, with the deal set to be announced in the coming days. The left-back has no future at the Etihad after a season with sporadic appearances, as the Spanish side set to pay €9 million for the 23-year-old outcast.
Sergio Gomez to join Real Sociedad?
Sergio Gomez was the player Manchester City brought after letting Oleksandr Zinchenko leave for Arsenal and then failing in their pursuit of Marc Cucurella, who joined Chelsea. The 23-year-old had impressed during his time at Belgian side Anderlecht, which proved convincing for Pep Guardiola to part ways with €15 million for the left-back.
The Spaniard never got started at the Etihad, and despite the club opting to keep him in the squad, Gomez ended up making only 15 appearances in all competitions without any important minutes. At 23, the full-back wants to play regularly, and there is the feeling he might never get to realise his talent at Manchester City.
Hence, a move away from the club seems logical, with the player unlikely to force his way through competition from the likes of Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol. Real Sociedad had opened talks for the 23-year-old Manchester City outcast, and now they are set to sign him in a €9 million deal and offer him a four-year contract.
Real Sociedad have been looking to sign a new left-back after their experiment with Kieran Tierney failed to work amid the Arsenal star’s persistent injury issues. While they will not sign the Scotland international, Gomez might have emerged as a big option. The move now seems closer to completion, and an announcement could be made in the coming days.
Gomez to revive his career in Spain
While there is intense competition for places at Manchester City, Gomez was never really a first-choice option for Guardiola. Instead, he might have signed the 23-year-old to fill the void left by Zinchenko’s departure two years ago. West Ham were once interested in signing him, but it appears that the left-back is not suited for the Premier League.
Hence, he might take the chance to join a Spanish side in Real Sociedad and revive his career. La Liga’s style would suit him, and certainly, a move to San Sebastian could open new avenues for the 23-year-old Manchester City outcast ahead of a long pending career.
