Leeds United failed with their move to sign Joe Rodon

Leeds United have failed with an attempt to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon on a permanent basis.

According to a report from Football Insider, Leeds United are keen on reinforcing their squad ahead of next season as they look to once again push for a promotion to the Premier League. Daniel Farke’s team are keen on signing Joe Rodon permanently but their bid to sign him is all set to collapse.

Rodon has been a part of the Tottenham setup since 2020 but he hasn’t been able to establish himself in their first team. He has spent a significant amount of time out on loan. He joined Farke’s team on a season-long loan last summer.

Leeds want to sign Rodon permanently

The 26-year-old had an impressive spell where he was involved in 50 matches. He was a rock at the back and his consistent performances are the reason why Leeds are keen on signing him this summer. They have already informed the player about their intention to bring him to Elland Road permanently.

They have been in constant contact with Tottenham regarding a permanent deal. But, it seems they are all set to miss out on him as the permanent deal is set to collapse. Leeds failed to gain promotion to the English top flight as they lost the play-off final to Southampton.

Leeds to miss out on Rodon

As they couldn’t secure an immediate return to the Premier League, they are all set to have major problems with their finances. According to the report, they will find it difficult to meet Tottenham’s demands for the 26-year-old due to financial situation.

While the Welsh international is under contract at the North London club until 2026, he is expected to be on the move this summer but there is a high possibility of him joining a Premier League club ahead of Leeds.

Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton who just secured promotion to the top flight are interested in Rodon and they do have a better shot at signing him. If Leeds had secured promotion, it would have been much easier for them to sign him. But, it seems they are now set to miss out on him.
