Newcastle United views Aaron Ramsdale as an expensive target, and a move to St James Park for the disgruntled Arsenal player appears unlikely.
According to Fabrizio Romano on Substack, Aaron Ramsdale is proving to be an expensive target for Newcastle United to pursue. The Magpies are aware of the disgruntled Arsenal player’s availability. Still, they may show reluctance to pay the kind of money the Gunners might demand, as other keepers are linked with a move.
No Newcastle United move for Aaron Ramsdale?
Aaron Ramsdale made the final cut to England’s Euros squad despite barely playing for Arsenal in the past season. The keeper did begin the campaign as Mikel Arteta’s No.1 choice, but the late summer arrival of David Raya changed the course for Ramsdale, who has since sat on the bench on all fronts.
With Raya set to complete his permanent move to the Emirates, Ramsdale has cut a disgruntled figure and will demand a departure to play regularly elsewhere. Arsenal will undoubtedly require a significant fee and will certainly look to profit from the sale, as they paid £30 million, including bonuses, to Sheffield United three years ago.
As for Ramsdale, he wants a move where he is the No.1 and does not wish to play second-fiddle to another keeper. Hence, he has no interest in joining Newcastle United, where Nick Pope remains Eddie Howe’s undisputed first-choice stopper ahead of the new season.
The Magpies had a significant interest in Ramsdale, but they have pivoted towards other targets. The report states Newcastle United think the disgruntled Arsenal player is an expensive target to pursue, as they may have to mind their spending amid concerns they could breach PSR rules.

For Howe, the idea will be to bring someone who could challenge Nick Pope for his place and eventually succeed him between the sticks. Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili remains a target, but again, he might also have a price tag that the Magpies will not pay up and deem expensive.
They are currently linked with James Trafford of Burnley, as the Clarets are demanding close to £20 million, something the Magpies will see as a reasonable sum. Hence, there’s Trafford, who may arrive from the relegated side rather than Ramsdale or Mamardashvili.
