Burnley demanding £30 million to sell James Trafford this summer

Burnley will demand around £30 million to part ways with 21-year-old English goalkeeper James Trafford in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by The Sun, James Trafford will likely leave Burnley in the summer transfer window. Chelsea and Newcastle United are interested in signing the 21-year-old goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Burnley will demand around £30 million to part ways with the youngster.

James Trafford and his young career so far

James Trafford rose in prominence after a superb 2022/23 season that ended with the triumphant campaign at the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championships. However, the young goalkeeper’s spell with Manchester City ended last summer, with Burnley snapping him up in a deal worth £15 million.

The 21-year-old endured a frustrating debut season with Burnley as the Clarets struggled throughout the 2023/24 campaign. They failed to stave off relegation, with Trafford conceding 62 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions, keeping only two clean sheets. However, the Englishman’s stock remains high, with a swift return to the Premier League on the cards.

Several high-profile clubs have shown interest in securing James Trafford’s services in the summer transfer window. In addition, the English goalkeeper is ready to leave Burnley after a frustrating debut season at Turf Moor. Chelsea and Newcastle United are two of his prospective suitors.

A man in demand

Chelsea’s interest in James Trafford is understandable. The Blues are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Robert Sanchez. The Burnley goalkeeper has thus emerged as a viable target, with Chelsea ready to pay £20 million to sign him.

However, Burnley will demand £30 million to part ways with the 21-year-old Englishman, with the Clarets eager to double their investment. As for Newcastle United, the Magpies want a new goalkeeper to compete with Nick Pope next season. Interestingly, Pope joined Newcastle United from Burnley a few years ago.

£30 million might be a fair demand to part ways with Trafford, considering the English shot-stopper’s potential. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea and Newcastle United meet Burnley’s valuation to secure James Trafford’s services in the summer transfer window.
