Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly both interested in acquiring the services of Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, the future of Rodrygo Goes has become the talk of the town following the arrival of Kylian Mbappe at Real Madrid. With the possibility of the Brazilian making a move in the summer, Manchester City and Chelsea are two clubs keen on his signature.
Rodrygo joined Los Blancos back in the summer of 2019 as a young prospect. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and has played a big part in helping them win two Champions League titles over the years.
Rodrygo was involved in 51 matches last season and contributed towards 26 goals (17 goals, 9 assists). The 23-year-old played a big part in their La Liga and Champions League triumphs.
While he still has four years left on his deal at the Spanish club, his future became the biggest talking point, with Real Madrid confirming the arrival of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick soon to follow. Mbappe’s arrival could have a major impact on his game time and it is one of the major reasons why clubs are closely monitoring Rodrygo’s situation at Real Madrid.
English clubs keen on Rodrygo’s services
Chelsea want more firepower in attack after not being at their best last season. They felt Rodrygo could do wonders for them and approached his entourage to understand the total cost of the operation. Unfortunately, they did not receive positive feedback from the player’s camp as a move to a club without Champions League football is not seen as an attractive option.
While the Blues have received a major blow, Manchester City have concrete interest in the 23-year-old. Pep Guardiola rates the Brazilian winger very highly and feels he could be an ideal player to further bolster his team. His ability to feature anywhere in attack could be a huge boost for the Spanish manager.
Manchester City had put aside money to sign Lucas Paqueta in the summer. But they are now looking to spend those funds on other targets and could look to splash the cash on Rodrygo. While City are keeping a close eye on his situation at the Spanish club, they will find it difficult to prise him away from Real Madrid, who have no intentions to negotiate his departure. Meanwhile, the player has also confirmed his desire to continue at the club.
