Paul Robinson has tipped Aaron Ramsdale to make a surprise move to Liverpool to compete with Alisson Becker ahead of the summer.
Aaron Ramsdale is one of the big players tipped to leave Arsenal in the summer at all costs. The England international was indeed called up to the provisional national team squad ahead of the Euros and is widely expected to keep his place.
However, should he continue sitting on the bench and remain widely unused under Mikel Arteta for another season, there are considerable doubts whether Gareth Southgate would consider him beyond the Euros. To put it into context, Ramsdale may have only got on the plane to German due to injuries to other candidates, most notably Nick Pope.
Ramsdale has had Newcastle United’s interest since January, and interest since January, and there were strong reports insisting the Magpies are ready to make a move for the Arsenal star. Much will depend on Arsenal’s asking price, as the the Tyneside outfit not coming into the summer window with a massive budget of sorts.
Furthermore, there have been reports stating that Newcastle United are not actively looking to replace Nick Pope with a new goalkeeper. Instead, they are seeking a new stopper to compete with their current No.1, as Ramsdale is not keen on the move to St. James’ Park.
Now, former Premier League keeper and England international Paul Robinson on Football Insider has strangely tipped Ramsdale to join Liverpool. The disgruntled Arsenal player has no links to the Merseyside club, and Robinson has tried to make sense of why the Gunners star should move to Anfield.
Robinson said, “I don’t think Aaron Ramsdale will move abroad, I think there’s a move for him in the Premier League. The one that stands out is Chelsea. Petrovic and Sanchez don’t seem to be at the level you want. That’s where Chelsea are at. You look at other teams in the Premier League, and he’d fit into most teams. I can’t see Newcastle happening with Pope there. Would Brighton be interested?”
“If Kelleher leaves Liverpool, there’s an opportunity for him to go and be a number one with Alisson. “Look at the amount of games Kelleher has played this year, compared to Ramsdale; there’s an opportunity there to have more game time and prove himself.”
It’s a strange link considering that at Liverpool, Ramsdale will begin the season as their No.2, should he replace Kelleher, who could leave the club in the summer. Secondly, how will it be any different from his current plight at Arsenal, as some may end up suggesting he should then remain where he is and compete with David Raya for a place?
In any case, Liverpool and Arsenal are linked with Justin Bijlow, the Feyenoord keeper, ahead of the summer, and such a keeper would make more sense for the Merseysiders. Then again, should Liverpool end up selling Alisson amid his Saudi Arabia links, then it would make more sense for Ramsdale to come in and replace the Brazilian.
