Atletico Madrid will reportedly look to poach 21-year-old beleaguered Spanish whizkid Ansu Fati from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ansu Fati is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid. The Colchoneros are scouring the market for an offensive reinforcement heading into the summer transfer window. And they are ready to submit an offer to sign the 21-year-old beleaguered Barcelona whizkid.
The rise and fall of Ansu Fati
Ansu Fati once had the world at his feet, having emerged as the heir apparent to Lionel Messi half a decade ago. He was the second-youngest player to debut for Barcelona when he made his bow at the onset of the 2019/20 season. The Spanish international took the world by storm in his maiden campaign but has endured a dramatic fall from grace since then.
Fitness issues have severely hampered Fati’s progress, and the persistent injuries took a toll on his performance. While the 21-year-old was a regular for Barcelona last season, he barely made his mark. However, it was still surprising when the Blaugrana loaned him out to Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer transfer window of 2023.
Fati showed some positive signs in his early days at Brighton & Hove Albion. However, fitness issues have resurfaced, meaning he has managed less than 1,000 minutes of game time for the Premier League club. Meanwhile, the beleaguered whizkid has seen his market value plummet to €30 million.
Madrid calling?
So, it is hardly surprising that Barcelona might cash in on Ansu Fati in the summer transfer window. And Atletico Madrid will look to hand the youngster an escape route from the Catalan outfit. The Colchoneros’ interest in the Spaniard is understandable despite his regressing performance levels.
The 21-year-old can replace Angel Correa in the Atletico Madrid midfield unit amid uncertainties surrounding the future of the Argentine international. And the report claims that Los Rojiblancos will soon present a bid to sign the beleaguered Barcelona whizkid in the summer transfer window.
Other La Liga clubs are also interested in Fati, who reportedly prefers to rejoin Sevilla, the club he represented in his youth career. So, it will be interesting to see if the Spanish international has to relinquish his Barcelona dream in the coming months.
