Bayern Munich are set to resurrect their interest in Kyle Walker and will lead the chase should he decide to quit Manchester City.
According to the Daily Star, Bayern Munich are set to resurrect their interest in Kyle Walker ahead of the summer. The defensive mainstay of Manchester City still has two years on his current deal. But should he decide to leave in the close season, the Bavarian giants are well-positioned to sign him.
Bayern Munich back in for Kyle Walker?
Last summer, Bayern Munich were persistent about bringing Kyle Walker and even had a verbal agreement. The Englishman seemed destined to depart Manchester City, only for Pep Guardiola to convince him to stay as he eventually signed a new deal until 2026.
Contractually, Manchester City are in a better position than last season with Walker, which could see them achieve a decent transfer fee for the 33-year-old. Walker, who joined the Citizens in a £50 million deal, has maintained his levels despite his advancing age, making 41 appearances in all competition, as he eyes a sixth league title in the time remaining this season.
Bayern Munich are now eager to resurrect their pursuit of Walker and could sound out a move for the England international to join after the Euros. Should he decide to quit Manchester City, the Bavarians could find themselves in pole position for the right-back.
They might still have to convince Walker of a move, and they will need to sound out the idea of playing football abroad, considering he has played his entire career in England so far. They hope Walker’s former Tottenham teammates Harry Kane and Eric Dier can help push for a move, although things over the transfer are still unclear.
Bayern Munich looking for a right-back
After their failed pursuit of Walker from last summer, Bayern Munich did not give up on their quest to find a right back heading into the January window. They also tried to bring Kieran Tripper in the winter window. But Newcastle United rejected their overtures, turning down multiple bids for the experienced full-back.
Takehiro Tomiyasu was also on their list in January, and they could have given his pursuit a go in the summer, only for the Japanese international to sign a new deal with Arsenal. Hence, Bayern Munich have faced massive disappointments in the quest for a new right back, and resurrecting the interest in Walker makes total sense now.
