Manchester City, Tottenham front-runners to sign Dani Olmo

Manchester City and Tottenham are reportedly ahead of Barcelona in the race to sign the €60 million-rated Dani Olmo.

According to a report by BILD, as relayed by Sport Witness, Dani Olmo is the subject of interest from Barcelona. However, the reigning La Liga champions have fallen behind in the race to sign the Spaniard, whose release clause of €60 million leaves them in a spot of bother. Instead, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are the front-runners to sign the RB Leipzig playmaker.

Dani Olmo at RB Leipzig: The Story So Far

Dani Olmo has been an exceptional performer for RB Leipzig since arriving from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2020. A former trainee in Barcelona’s fabled La Masia division, the 25-year-old has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the Bundesliga in the last four years.

The Spanish international began the 2023/24 season with a bang, scoring a match-winning hat-trick as RB Leipzig beat Bayern Munich to win the DFL Supercup. While injuries have hampered Olmo since then, he has still managed a solid tally of seven goals and four assists in 20 outings across all competitions thus far this term.

The Spaniard is a regular for his club and country, having turned out 33 times thus far for Spain. However, his long-term RB Leipzig future is uncertain due to his release clause of €60 million. Such a situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, Manchester City and Tottenham.

A Man in Demand

Barcelona’s interest in Dani Olmo is not new. The reigning La Liga champions hold a long-standing interest in the Spanish international and view him as a two-pronged solution in the midfield and attack. However, his release clause of €60 million leaves Barcelona behind Manchester City and Tottenham in the race to sign the RB Leipzig playmaker.

Manchester City can sign him as a long-term replacement for Bernardo Silva, as he can be a solution on the right flank and central areas. As for Tottenham, they can also use the Spaniard as a two-pronged solution in the final third. The two Premier League clubs will unlikely have an issue shelling out €60 million to secure Olmo’s services.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona can claw back in the race to sign Olmo from RB Leipzig. However, Manchester City and Tottenham are seemingly the front-runners to sign the 25-year-old Spanish international from RB Leipzig this summer.
