Barcelona bow out of race to sign Ruben Amorim

Barcelona have reportedly decided against appointing 39-year-old Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim as their next manager.

According to Pedro Sepúlveda, Barcelona will not be pushing for the services of Ruben Amorim. The Catalan giants are on the lookout for a new manager and have been linked with the Sporting CP boss. But, they have decided against making a move for the 39-year-old.

Amorim is still in the initial years of his manager career, and he has already made quite a name for himself. He took charge of the Portuguese club at the start of 2020 and has transformed them into a winning machine. They are playing an attacking and attractive brand of football under him.

The Portuguese tactician has led them in over 200 matches and averages 2.24 points per game, which is quite a good track record. In the ongoing season, his team are pushing for the league title as well as the domestic cup. While Amorim is focused on the job at hand, his impressive track record and his team’s performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs.

Barcelona will not push for Ruben Amorim

Barcelona are one of the clubs that Amorim has been linked with. Xavi Hernandez has already made it known that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. As a result, the Catalan giants have been on the lookout for a new boss.

The Blaugrana are working in the background to find the perfect fit for the club. While Amorim has been linked with them, they will not be pushing for his services. Their sporting director Deco recently said that the Sporting manager plays with a style that is quite similar to Barcelona but does not have the required experience to take the job at the club.

More importantly, there is a €20 million release clause in his contract. While the Portuguese club are ready to negotiate and any interested club could sign him for €15 million, there is no way the Catalan giants will fork out that kind of money for a new manager given their current financial situation.

Liverpool’s interest in Amorim

Meanwhile, Liverpool have also been linked with the 39-year-old as they look to find a successor of Jurgen Klopp. Xabi Alonso was their priority target, but his decision to continue at Bayer Leverkusen means they will have to look elsewhere,

The Sporting CP manager is a part of their wish list and with Barcelona no longer in the mix, it will not be that difficult a task for the Reds to sign him. But, Liverpool have not made any decisions yet regarding the €15-20 million-rated tactician.
