Tottenham considering Bosman move for Ben Johnson

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old versatile West Ham United defender Ben Johnson in a Bosman move this summer.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Ben Johnson is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The 24-year-old versatile defender has entered the final six months of his contract with West Ham United. So, Tottenham can complete a Bosman move if he leaves the East London club as a free agent.

Who is Ben Johnson?

Ben Johnson has been a solid backup option for West Ham United throughout his stint with the East London outfit. A native of London, the Englishman spent his formative years with West Ham United before graduating from the club’s youth division nearly half a dozen years ago.

Initially a winger in his formative years, he transitioned into a full-back as his youth career progressed. The 24-year-old made his first-team debut for West Ham in February 2019 and has since been a backup option for the club. That has also been the case this season, with Johnson managing only 731 minutes of game time across 16 appearances thus far.

But a new adventure likely beckons the English full-back, who has entered the final six months of his contract with West Ham United. Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Interested

Interestingly, Ben Johnson is the cousin of Tottenham legend Ledley King, who served the North London outfit as the club captain for several years. And the 24-year-old Englishman is a viable target for Tottenham, even though Ange Postecoglou has two right-backs in his squad.

Recent reports have linked Tottenham with several full-backs, including Ferdi Kadioglu. They also failed with a move for Andrea Cambiaso in January. Meanwhile, Emerson Royal faces an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Saudi Pro League clubs showed interest in him in January.

So, Johnson is a viable candidate for Tottenham, with his impending free-agent status making him an intriguing option. Tottenham can divert funds towards other targets while landing a new signing for nothing. But it will be interesting to see if the 24-year-old wants to swap one backup role for another.
