Athletic Club sensation Nico Williams dreams of playing for Spanish giants Real Madrid amidst interest from Chelsea.
According to a report by DefensaCentral, Chelsea are keen on having Nico Williams in their ranks and the Blues have intensified their efforts to land the 21-year-old. The Athletic Club star wants to play for Real Madrid but there is no place for him at Santiago Bernabéu.
Williams’ rise & likely departure in the summer
Williams has had a sensational rise at the Spanish club. He has been a part of their team since his childhood days and has come up the ranks at some pace. The winger has taken his game to another level in the recent past.
His impressive performances have earned him a place in the Spanish national team and it has also resulted in a lot of interest in his services. In the ongoing season, the 21-year-old has featured in a total of 27 matches and has contributed towards 17 goals.
The Spanish international’s exceptional performance has put him on the radar of European giants. While he did extend his contract in the recent past and his new deal runs until the summer of 2027, there is a €50 million release clause in his contract which could lead to his departure in the summer.
Chelsea’s interest & Williams’ desire to play for Real Madrid
Chelsea are one of the clubs keen on his signatures and they are ready to trigger his release. The Blues want to further bolster their attack, they want more competition on the flanks. Williams has been on their radar for a while now and they are willing to go hard for him in the summer.
While Chelsea are keen, the player would prefer a move to Real Madrid. The 21-year-old has privately talked about his desire to play for the Los Blancos after leaving Bilbao. But, Florentino Perez is not interested in having the Spanish international in his team.
The Madrid-based club have started to plan for the summer and there are quite a few names on their radar. The option of signing Williams is also on the table but the Spanish giants are unlikely to opt for it. They already have a lot of options out wide and there is no place for the 21-year-old at the club.
With Los Blancos unlikely to make a move, Chelsea are in the driving seat but other English clubs can make things difficult for them.
