Real Madrid closing in on signing Alphonso Davies

La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid have advanced their move to sign Alphonso Davies from Bundesliga champions Alphonso Davies.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Alphonso Davies is the top target for Real Madrid heading into the summer transfer window. The Merengues are closing in on signing the 23-year-old from Bayern Munich. And they have submitted an initial offer worth €35 million to the Bundesliga champions, although they might have to raise the bid.

The Rise and Rise of Alphonso Davies

Alphonso Davies has been one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019. That is incredible, considering he was a budding winger at the Canadian club. But he has taken to the role like a fish to water, growing in stature in the last half a decade.

The 23-year-old has turned out 181 times thus far for Bayern Munich, chipping in with nine goals and 28 assists. But Davies faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena after entering the final 18 months of his contract with the Bundesliga club. Such a situation has piqued the interest of several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.

Real Madrid Keen

The Merengues hold a long-standing interest in Davies, having tracked his progress for several years. They have been in talks with the Canadian international for many weeks. Meanwhile, other reports have suggested that personal terms will not be an issue for the marauding full-back.

While personal terms might not be an issue, sealing an agreement with Bayern Munich will be a tall order. It might be in the Bundesliga champions’ best interests to part ways with Alphonso Davies if they cannot tie him to a new contract. But they will demand a premium to sell him this summer.

The report suggests Bayern Munich will demand at least €50 million to part ways with Davies in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, they have received Real Madrid’s initial offer for the 23-year-old. The Merengues have submitted a bid worth €35 million, which might not be enough.

The Spanish giants realise they will have to raise their offer to secure Davies’s services. But it is unclear if Real Madrid will meet Bayern Munich’s valuation to seal the agreement. Nevertheless, they are advancing their move to land the Canadian international.
