Chelsea eyeing Thomas Frank as Mauricio Pochettino replacement

Chelsea might replace Mauricio Pochettino with 50-year-old Brentford manager Thomas Frank if results do not improve.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Thomas Frank is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are scouring the market for a manager heading into the business end of the 2023/24 season. And they might approach the 50-year-old Brentford head coach if Mauricio Pochettino cannot turn things around.

Thomas Frank has established himself as one of the most underrated managers in the Premier League in the last few years. The Danish tactician went under the radar until he joined Brentford in 2018. He masterminded the West London club’s rise to the Premier League only three years after joining the Bees.

Since then, Brentford’s rise under the tutelage of the 50-year-old has been meteoric. The Bees have become mainstays in the Premier League, even clinching a top-half finish in the 2022/23 campaign. While they have struggled this term, they will fancy their chances of remaining in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Frank’s progress at Brentford has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Reports last year heavily linked the Brentford manager with Tottenham Hotspur before the North London club appointed Ange Postecoglou as Antonio Conte’s replacement. But Chelsea might come calling soon.

Chelsea appointed Mauricio Pochettino as the latest head coach in the Todd Boehly-led era after Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter parted ways with the West London club in the 2022/23 season. But the Argentine tactician has failed to galvanise the team, even though he led Chelsea to the EFL Cup final.

So, Pochettino might be on thin ice even though recent reports have contradicted such a notion. Meanwhile, the Blues are keeping their options open, with several candidates, including Roberto De Zerbi, emerging on their radar. But Thomas Frank is also a viable target for Chelsea.

But the Blues do not view the 50-year-old Brentford manager as a top target, with Ruben Amorim and De Zerbi being the preferred options to replace Pochettino. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the Danish tactician rises in the pecking order amid Chelsea’s search for a potential Pochettino replacement.
