Liverpool considering summer move for Marc Guehi

Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of 23-year-old Manchester United and Chelsea defensive target Marc Guehi.

According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Liverpool are keen on having Marc Guehi in their ranks. While a lot will change at the Merseyside club over the next few months, they have still started to draft plans for the summer transfer window, and signing Guehi is a part of their plans. Chelsea and Manchester United also want him.

The 23-year-old went up the ranks at Chelsea at some pace. He was in their first team quite early in his career. But, things did not really work out as planned, and he ended up joining Crystal Palace in 2021 for a fee of £18 million.

Guehi has revived himself since joining the Eagles. Not only has he established himself as one of the mainstays of the team, but the young centre-back has also earned himself a spot in the England national team.

Manchester United and Liverpool’s interest in Guehi

His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, as it has attracted interest from Liverpool as well as Manchester United. Dan Ashworth could soon take charge as the new sporting director for the Red Devils. The revered transfer guru is a big admirer of the England international and would love to sign him at Manchester United.

But, it will depend on whether he takes charge in time for the summer window or not. The Magpies’ outgoing sporting director wanted to sign him at Newcastle United. But that never really happened. With Manchester United in need of a centre-back, Guehi will be an ideal choice.

As far as Liverpool are concerned, they are all set to undergo major changes. They are looking for a new sporting director, while Jurgen Klopp is all set to end his stint after this season.

Despite all this, Liverpool have started to plan for the summer, and signing a new defender is a priority. Guehi is their top target for that role, but it depends on those who will take charge after the end of the season.

A possible return to Chelsea

While Chelsea do not have a buy-back clause, they could return for their former youth product as they need a new centre-back, with Thiago Silva leaving. The English centre-back has already proved himself, and he is reportedly open to a move back to the club. Meanwhile, Chelsea do have a sell-on-cause as well as the option to match any bid that can be used to enter the race even at the very end.
