Chelsea are expected to sell Romelu Lukaku and other names before they are forced to decide on the €100 million flop Mykhailo Mudryk.
Ben Jacobs on Give Me Sport insists Chelsea may not be forced to sell Mykhailo Mudryk in the summer after a terrible run of games for the Ukrainian international. However, the Blues might opt to sell some of their other stars, including Romelu Lukaku, before they think about offloading the €100 million flop.
Chelsea’s stance on Mykhailo Mudryk explained
Chelsea paid a considerable sum to sign Mykhailo Mudryk just over a year ago and even beat Arsenal for his signature. The final fee could go up to €100 million, although the player is already considered a flop at the club.
Mudryk arrived at the club at the back of some solid performances for Shakhtar Donetsk. But so far, he has only shown his talent in flashes. He has yet to replicate his form of old at Stamford Bridge, although many believe he could still come through successfully in the future.
While Mauricio Pochettino has shown enough faith in the €100 million flop this season, in recent games, he has marginalised his appearances and prefers others in the attacking third. There were rumours that Bayern Munich failed with a move in January, with further stories insisting Chelsea might sell.
As per Ben Jacobs, Chelsea could sell some of their stars in the current side ahead of Mudryk. For instance, the journalist points at Romelu Lukaku as a potential sale to balance the books, as he also names a few of their homegrown stars to leave before the Ukrainian does.
Romelu Lukaku and others to leave Chelsea?
Chelsea have spent vast sums in the transfer window over the last 18 months and could look to balance their books with considerable sales. There are those homegrown stars who are in danger of getting sold for the sake of gaining proper profit.
Lukaku, a €100 million-plus flop himself, has been spending time on loan at AS Roma and has had a good season so far, scoring 16 goals across all competitions. The Serie A club do not have the means to pay big for him, although there is interest from Saudi clubs to sign the Belgian forward.
Hence, Chelsea are prioritising selling the likes of Lukaku, Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher, Ian Maatsen, and Armando Broja before they think about relinquishing their investment in Mudryk in the summer.
