Enzo Fernandez contemplating Chelsea exit

23-year-old Argentine World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez is considering parting ways with Premier League giants Chelsea.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Chelsea’s record-breaking signing Enzo Fernandez could end up parting ways with the English club in the next summer transfer window. The 23-year-old midfield sensation has not had the best of times since joining the Blues, and he is considering moving elsewhere in search of greener pastures.

The Enzo Fernandez Story

Fernandez came up the ranks at River Plate before joining Benfica in the summer of 2022. Post joining the Portuguese club, he went from strength to strength. Over the next six months, he made quite a name for himself and played an integral role in helping Argentina win the World Cup.

His exceptional performances resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. Chelsea went all out and signed him for a then Premier League-record €121 million with the help of super-agent Jorge Mendes.

Fernandez was expected to take the Premier League by storm given the kind of money the Blues paid for him. But, that has not happened. While he has eight goal contributions in his 50 appearances for the West London club, the Argentine international has failed to have the kind of impact that was expected.

Enzo Fernandez Struggling at Chelsea

He has failed to form a dependable partnership with Moises Caicedo in the centre of the park. Things have not gone according to plan for the World Cup winner, and he has started considering the idea of parting ways with the English club.

His agents, including his long-time representative Uriel Perez, have started looking for potential destinations for Fernandez. They have begun talks with multiple clubs from across Europe as they explore opportunities for the 23-year-old.

The dynamics of a potential exit are not clear yet because there is no clarity over who is driving the transfer away, whether it is the player or his representatives. A move away from the club won’t be easy because the Blues have forked out a fortune to sign him, and they won’t sell unless they get what they want. And, with his contract running until 2032, Chelsea are in the driving seat.
