West Ham United join race to sign Trevoh Chalobah

West Ham United will reportedly compete with Bayern Munich for 24-year-old Chelsea utility man Trevoh Chalobah.

According to a report by talkSPORT, Trevoh Chalobah is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are in the market for a centre-back in the ongoing transfer window. But they will face stiff competition from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich for the Chelsea utility man.

The Trevoh Chalobah Story: A Topsy-Turvy Ride

Trevoh Chalobah might have reached the end of the line at Chelsea. The 24-year-old rose to prominence under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel, featuring regularly for the first team. He became a utility man for the West London club due to his versatility, as he can play as a centre-back, a right-back, and a holding midfielder.

But the Freetown native has seen his stock plummet since Tuchel’s departure from Stamford Bridge nearly 18 months ago. Chalobah has yet to feature for Chelsea this season, albeit due to a long-term hamstring injury he picked up during the pre-season campaign. But his Chelsea future is non-existent, as he does not feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

Recent reports claimed that Chelsea informed Trevoh Chalobah he was free to leave the club in the January transfer window. But despite his falling stature at the West London club, the 24-year-old remains a man in demand. And he has West Ham United and Bayern Munich competing for his signature.

Bayern Munich, West Ham United Vying for Chalobah

Bayern Munich recently established contact to secure Chalobah’s services in the January transfer window. Thomas Tuchel is keen on adding a versatile centre-back to his squad, and the 24-year-old Chelsea utility man fits the bill. So, a reunion of the pair at Bayern Munich might be on the cards.

As for West Ham United, the Hammers are also in the market for a centre-back this month. Nayef Aguerd faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium as he wants to embark on a new adventure. Several central defenders, including Max Kilman, have thus emerged on West Ham United’s radar, with Chalobah also being a viable target.

While West Ham will give Trevoh Chalobah the chance to remain in London, the opportunity to join Bayern Munich might be too difficult to turn down. So, it will be interesting to see where the 24-year-old Chelsea utility man plies his trade in the second half of the 2023/24 season.
