Newcastle United best-placed to sign Goncalo Inacio

Newcastle United are best placed to sign the €60 million-rated Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio, a target for Real Madrid.

According to a report by Record, as relayed by Sport Witness, Goncalo Inacio is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Sporting CP defender, whose release clause is worth €60 million, is also a target for Real Madrid. But the Magpies are better placed to land the Portuguese international next year.

Goncalo Inacio: A Highly-Rated Defender for the Now and Future

Goncalo Inacio has come leaps and bounds since breaking into the first-team squad at Sporting CP. A graduate of the famous Portuguese club’s youth division, the youngster is one of the best young defenders in the world. Meanwhile, he has also broken into his national team, making five appearances thus far.

The 22-year-old has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Sporting CP, chipping in with 14 goals and eight assists. Meanwhile, Inacio’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. The presence of a release clause worth €60 million also makes him an appealing target for his suitors.

A Man in Demand

Several Premier League bigwigs, including Newcastle United, are keen on signing Goncalo Inacio from Sporting CP. The youngster is also a target for La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid. But the report by Record has claimed that the Magpies are better placed to land the Portuguese centre-back.

Newcastle United can do with a long-term central defensive solution. While Fabian Schar and Sven Botman have struck a solid partnership, the former is on the wrong side of 30. Inacio has thus emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United. In addition, the Magpies are willing to pay a sizable sum to secure the defender’s services.

As for Real Madrid, the Merengues occupy the young defender’s imagination. David Alaba, Nacho, and Antonio Rudiger are on the wrong side of 30. In addition, Nacho is in the final year of his contract. Meanwhile, Alaba is recovering from a long-term knee injury that might hamper his performance levels. Inacio is thus a viable target for Real Madrid.

Newcastle United and Real Madrid are financially adept enough to afford his release clause. But while they can pay €60 million to land Goncalo Inacio, the report comes as a blow to Los Blancos. Meanwhile, Sporting CP might resist selling the 22-year-old in the middle of the title race. But they cannot do anything if his suitor trigger his release clause.
