Arsenal have set a £50 million price tag on Eddie Nketiah to ward off suitors ahead of the January window as talk of an exit picked momentum.
According to 90 Min, Arsenal will demand £50 million to sell Eddie Nketiah in January as talk of a sale picks up momentum in the media. The Gunners remained linked with a striker signing next month, but Mikel Arteta considers the academy graduate a superior player and helpful deputy in his squad.
Arsenal have seen links to a top-draw striker since the current season began. The argument stems from their need to bring in a 20+ goal forward that would help them win the league title. The Gunners do not have that profile and remain linked with several top names.
Per multiple reports, Ivan Toney is a target, but Dominic Solanke’s name emerged recently, which probably indicated their willingness to sign a forward. In theory, they do not need a top forward immediately, as they already have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in their ranks.
Arteta prefers Jesus as his starting No.9 but has used Nketiah well as a regular substitute and a deputy to the Brazilian when unavailable. During the summer, Arsenal chose to sell Folarin Balogun and decided to keep Nketiah in the squad, which showed the manager’s faith in the forward.
However, recent reports have pointed out that Arsenal could sell Nketiah in January to fund a move for a new forward. The FFP regulations would prevent the Gunners from spending big next month unless they can sell some of their stars to raise funds.
Nketiah appears like a sellable asset and has interest from several clubs. Crystal Palace retains an interest, while West Ham have also seen mentions in reports regarding a move. However, Arsenal have slapped a £50 million price tag on the striker to ward off suitors from the chase.
There are doubts whether clubs would pay £50 million to sign the 24-year-old first-team ace, although anything could happen in the next window. Arteta may plan to keep the forward at least until the summer, but considering the financial capabilities to bring a new No.9, they are unlikely to entertain a sale.
