West Ham United’s unwillingness to spend big on a new striker in January could scupper their chances of signing Armando Broja.
According to Football Insider, West Ham United are keen to sign Armando Broja but unwilling to spend big on the Chelsea striker or any other forward. Their decision could scupper a move for the Albanian frontman, with the Blues reportedly open to a sale.
Since deciding to sell Gianluca Scamacca to Roma in the summer, David Moyes had looked for a new striker. The Italian barely even settled since his high-profile move last summer, but the Hammers failed to replace him during the summer.
Michail Antonio’s recent injury has put things into perspective for Moyes regarding bringing in a new forward. Danny Ings remains on the books, but the 31-year-old has barely played with any impact, clocking only 400 minutes in 16 games across all competitions this season.
If the Hammers receive a decent offer for the former Aston Villa man, then Moyes will sanction a sale. The Hammers’ boss will want the club to sign a new striker with links to various names, including Armando Broja and Serhou Guirassy.
The interest in Broja has persisted for a while, but somehow, West Ham did not manage to sign him. Chelsea are already looking for a new high-profile forward in January and could sacrifice the 22-year-old to raise funds, having already placed a £30 million price tag on the Albanian.
A sale would vastly benefit Chelsea with FFP, but West Ham are not overly keen to spend big on him or any other forward. Their stance could scupper any move for the 22-year-old Chelsea ace, which brings the whole chase of Serhou Guirassy into perspective.
Guirassy is available for £15 million owing to a release clause in his Stuttgart contract, and hence, West Ham are eager to wrap up a deal quickly. However, they face intense competition for the forward, with Manchester United and Tottenham also in the mix.
Hence, if they lose out on Guirassy later, they might have to pay what Chelsea demands for Broja. So, the Hammers would want to explore an opportunity with the Albanian early, but the two clubs could fall out over their distance in valuations for the 22-year-old Albanian forward.
