Fran Garcia on Borussia Dortmund radar

Perennial Bundesliga titles contenders Borussia Dortmund are reportedly keen on signing Fran Garcia from Real Madrid next year.

According to reputed German journalist Patrick Berger, as relayed by Madrid Zone, Fran Garcia is the subject of interest from Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga giants are in the market for a left-back heading into the two transfer windows in 2024. But the Black and Yellows are aware that the Real Madrid full-back might not be easy to acquire, with Sergio Reguilon an alternative.

Fran Garcia: An Unhappy Second Coming At Real Madrid

Fran Garcia has struggled to stamp his authority since rejoining Real Madrid from Rayo Vallecano this past summer. Los Blancos chose to re-sign the Spanish defender after his exploits with Rayo Vallecano, which established him as one of the best full-backs in La Liga. But the Real Madrid homecoming has not gone to plan.

The 24-year-old has been in and out of the starting lineup throughout the first half of the 2023/24 season. Garcia has managed only 732 minutes of game time across 15 appearances for Real Madrid thus far this term. But the player’s stock remains high, with Borussia Dortmund interested in signing him.

Bundesliga Calling?

At Borussia Dortmund, Edin Terzic has a lopsided defensive unit at his disposal. The German tactician has as many as four right-backs in his squad while possessing only one left-back. While Ramy Bensebaini has done well for the Black and Yellows, they can do with an alternative to the 28-year-old.

So, it is hardly surprising that the Bundesliga giants are in the market for a left-back, with Fran Garcia emerging as a viable target. With Real Madrid looking for a left-sided full-back amid links with Alphonso Davies and Ian Maatsen, Garcia might be a viable target.

But the report contradicts those suggestions, claiming the Bundesliga giants know the Spaniard will be hard to get. So, the Black and Yellows have identified Sergio Reguilon, currently on loan at Manchester United from Tottenham, as an alternative to Real Madrid’s summer arrival.

The suggestions from Patrick Berger makes sense, with Ferland Mendy attracting speculation. So, it will be interesting to see if Borussia Dortmund can sign Fran Garcia or move on to other targets like Sergio Reguilon.
