Lucas Leiva tells Liverpool to sign Andre

Lucas Leiva has urged Liverpool to sign Brazilian midfielder Andre Trindade, a target for Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Andre Trindade is expected to leave Brazilian club Fluminense in January, and he has no shortage of suitors. Reports have linked him with Premier League bigwigs like Arsenal and Liverpool.

Manchester United and Fulham have been linked with a move for the Brazilian midfielder as well and he is likely to cost around €35 million. Former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has now urged the club to sign the 22-year-old.

“He’s a very good player,” Lucas said on the Aldo Meets podcast (h/t TEAMtalk). “I would say he’s the new modern number six you know. He’s not very big but he’s very strong. He just won the Copa Libertadores for Fluminense, a fantastic talent, he could be a good addition of course for Liverpool because it’s a position that’s really important to the team.”

Lucas continued, “You never know how these boys will do. I’m always very careful because I know how difficult it is to come from Brazil, he’s a fantastic player, but it depends now if the club and manager feel that his way of playing would fit the way Liverpool plays.”

It is no secret that Liverpool desperately need a quality defensive midfielder, and the 22-year-old could be a key addition to their midfield. He will help protect the defenders and break up opposition attacks. His arrival will also allow Liverpool to operate with more freedom going forward.

Andre was heavily linked with Liverpool during the summer transfer window. But Fluminense refused to sell him midway through the season. They are open to selling him in January, and a €35 million valuation seems quite reasonable.

Liverpool were willing to pay far more for players like Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo during the summer transfer window. They should be able to afford Andre without any problems. It will be interesting to see if they can beat the competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal.

The Gunners will need to sign a quality replacement for Thomas Partey, and the 22-year-old certainly fits the profile. He could prove to be a quality acquisition for the North London club and the reported €35 million asking price is quite reasonable as well.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal would be exciting destinations for Andre, and it remains to be seen where he ends up. For the reported price, the Brazilian could prove to be a major bargain if he can hit the ground running in the Premier League.
