Tottenham ready to step up efforts to sign an attacker in January

Tottenham could prioritise an attacking player in the January window, as Ange Postecoglou wants a versatile presence in the frontline.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham could accelerate their efforts to bring in a new attacking signing in January. Ange Postecoglou has demanded a versatile player to nourish the frontline after recent injuries to key stars.

The January transfer window will bring new ideas to clubs seeking to reinforce their sides as managers will scour the market for their preferred targets. Top Premier League clubs do not usually look for foundational signings in this particular window. But they will need to strengthen considerably in Tottenham’s case.

After a stellar start to the season that saw many considering them in the title challengers bracket, recent form and loss of players threaten to derail their ambitions. We focused particularly on the four games after the international break that will determine whether they are challengers or pretenders.

While they have defensive deficiencies at the back, Tottenham are also on the lookout for midfielders to shore up those areas. Incidentally, the form of James Maddison since his arrival has not made anyone think Spurs needed another attacker in their squad. Still, his recent injury has shed some light in that regard.

As per the report, Tottenham are keen on adding an attacker on priority ahead of the January transfer window, with Ange Postecoglou particularly demanding one in his ranks. There were previous links to Galatasaray’s Kerem Akturloglu. But some more names have come to the fore.

The report claims Postecoglou wants a player who can effectively feature in all three positions in the front line. Someone like Samuel Iling-Junior would fit the bill, with Spurs already linked with the Juventus attacker ahead of January.

Postecoglou could also go for former Celtic attacker Jota in the window, and the versatile forward remains available. Since the season began, Tottenham have already lost Manor Solomon, Richarlison, and James Maddison to injuries.

Brennan Johnson is still finding his feet after his own injury layoff since the Arsenal game. Hence, Postecoglou wants to shore up the attacking areas further and could push the club to sign an attacker during the January transfer window.
