Al-Ahli, Al-Ettifaq vying for Arsenal midfield Thomas Partey

Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Ahli and Al-Ettifaq are reportedly interested in signing 30-year-old Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Thomas Partey is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League. Al-Ahli and Al-Ettifaq are keen on signing the 30-year-old in the January transfer window. The Arsenal midfielder is also the subject of interest from Juventus and a few other European bigwigs.

Thomas Partey has endured a hit-and-miss spell since joining Arsenal from Atletico Madrid over three years ago. The Gunners shelled out €50 million to land the Ghanaian international, a sizable fee to secure his services. While he has been a top-class performer when fit and available, his injury woes have hampered him considerably.

Partey is also on the sidelines right now, recovering from a hamstring injury that will keep him in the treatment room until the end of the year. The 30-year-old has thus managed only 341 minutes of game time thus far this term across five appearances. Meanwhile, the player will enter the final 18 months of his Arsenal contract in January.

Such a situation has captured the attention of many high-profile clubs, with Juventus pushing for his signature. In addition, recent reports have claimed that Arsenal might cash in on the former Atletico Madrid midfielder. Meanwhile, Partey has emerged as a target for Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Ahli and Al-Ettifaq.

Saudi Pro League clubs have been active in the market for high-profile names in the last two transfer windows. This past summer, in particular, saw them splash the cash to make some shock signings. Al-Ahli and Al-Ettifaq were also busy throughout the summer, signing some well-known players.

But Saudi Pro League bigwigs will unlikely slow down anytime soon, with Partey emerging as a top target. But it is unclear if the Ghanaian international is willing to move outside Europe amid interest from Juventus. Meanwhile, he has informed Arsenal that he wants to leave the club in the January transfer window.

Partey’s desire to leave aligns with Arsenal’s contemplation over his future. But the North London club might struggle to recoup the €50 million they paid to land him three years ago. It will be interesting to see if Saudi Pro League clubs can convince him to leave Europe for the Middle East.
