Reece James is fully committed to Chelsea amid widespread speculation linking the 23-year-old with Real Madrid.
According to a report by 90min, Reece James is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The 23-year-old is also a target for Manchester City. But the Chelsea captain is committed to the West London club and will not seek a departure from Stamford Bridge anytime soon.
Reece James has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the world in the last half a decade. A graduate of the fabled Cobham Academy, the English international had to bide his time before becoming an undisputed first-choice starter for Chelsea. But his performances have helped skyrocket his stock.
The 23-year-old has risen in stature considerably in the last four years, becoming the club captain following Cesar Azpilicueta’s departure from Stamford Bridge this past summer. But fitness issues have plagued James’s career since the start of the 2020/21 season. A hamstring injury has also bothered the player this term, but he has recovered from it to feature in recent games.
The Chelsea mainstay has provided one assist in six appearances thus far this term. But James’s future at the West London club has come under a cloud of uncertainty in the last few months. The English international does not have a shortage of suitors, with Real Madrid keen on signing him.
Recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will regularly scout James in the 2023/24 season. The Merengues have not needed a right-back for several years due to the excellent performances of Dani Carvajal. But the Spaniard is on the wrong side of 30, with his performance levels dropping in the last few years.
So, it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a right-back heading into the 2024 summer transfer window. Considering James’s fitness issues, he can initially share game time with Carvajal before becoming the undisputed first-choice right-back. But Real Madrid might not secure the English defender’s services anytime soon, as he is committed to Chelsea.
The report claims that the 23-year-old Chelsea mainstay does not want to leave the West London club in the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, James is also a target for Manchester City. But like Real Madrid, the Premier League champions will unlikely land him anytime soon.
