Manchester City want £50 million for Kalvin Phillips amid Liverpool, Newcastle United, Aston Villa links

Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa will have to fork out £50 million for the services of Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Manchester City have set an asking price of £50 million for the services of Kalvin Phillips. Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa are all interested in the services of the 27-year-old. But they will have to pay a big price for his services.

Phillips came through the ranks at Leeds United, and he played a big part in helping them get back in the English top flight. The 27-year-old took his game to another level under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa and post that, he has been a regular in the England national team.

He joined Manchester City in the summer of 2022 from Leeds. City paid £42 million for the England international, but the move has not gone according to the plan. In his 15-month-long stay at the Etihad, he has only started five games. In total, he has featured in 25 matches, and only two of his starts have come in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s team were ready to offload him during the summer. There was interest from West Ham United and they were ready to accept a bid of less than £40 million. But, the player wanted to prove himself and he wanted to fight for a spot in the team.

Nothing much has changed since the summer, as Phillips is still way down the pecking order and did not even start in the absence of Rodri. Both the player and the club have made up their mind, they will part ways in the winter.

But, with a lot of interest in his services, Manchester City are now looking to make a profit from his sale. They want £50 million for the 27-year-old, which is £8 million more than what they had paid. Liverpool are one of the clubs interested.

The Merseyside club might have signed multiple midfielders during the summer. But their manager Jurgen Klopp is still on the lookout for another defensive midfielder. And, the Liverpool boss feels Phillips could be a great fit for the club as he has enough experience playing in the English top flight.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are also interested in the England international. They have been doing wonders of late. But Emery feels the need for another world-class midfielder as they look to challenge the top clubs in the country.

Newcastle United have suffered a huge blow as Sandro Tonali has been banned for 10 months. He was involved in illegal betting and will take no further part in the season. As a result, the Magpies are on the lookout for a replacement, and they have their eyes on the City midfielder.

Phillips could surely be of great help to Eddie Howe’s team as they look to finish in the top four of the Premier League once again and go beyond the group stages in the Champions League. And, they do have the finances to strike a deal with Manchester City. But, the £50 million asking price will surely make things difficult.
