Liverpool in direct contact over move to sign Victor Osimhen

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 24-year-old Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, a target for Chelsea.

A report from Calciomercato has claimed that Liverpool have had direct contact over a move for Victor Osimhen, and they have been showing interest since last summer. The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the best players in Europe, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for the Premier League side.

Liverpool will face competition from Chelsea for the Nigerian international striker. The Blues need to sign a top-class finisher, and Osimhen could transform them in the final third. Meanwhile, Liverpool already have Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo at their disposal, and it will be interesting to see how they accommodate the Napoli striker in the starting lineup.

Mohamed Salah has been linked with an exit from Liverpool, and it will be interesting to see if Jurgen Klopp decides to switch to a two-striker formation and sign Osimhen as the talismanic attacker’s replacement.

The 31-year-old Egyptian international will enter the final year of his contract next summer, and it would be wise of Liverpool to sell him if he does not extend his contract. Clubs in Saudi Arabia are keen on signing him at the end of the season. They tried to sign him during the summer transfer window as well.

Meanwhile, Osimhen scored 31 goals across all competitions last season, and he helped Napoli win the league title. He would definitely improve Liverpool going forward, and it will be interesting to see if the Reds can get the deal done.

Napoli have tried to extend the striker’s contract. But release clause has been a major issue to reaching an agreement between the two parties. Osimhen and his agent are demanding a reasonable release clause to be included in the new contract. But Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to set a release clause in excess of €200 million.

While there is no doubt that Osimhen is a top class player, it is highly unlikely that any club would be willing to pay that kind of money for him. it remains to be seen whether the striker decides to snub a new contract at the Serie A club and move to the Premier League at the end of the season. It would be an exciting step up in his career and working under a manager like Klopp could help him fulfil his world-class potential.
