Aston Villa rival Chelsea in Tammy Abraham pursuit

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham, also a target for Chelsea.

A report from TEAMtalk has claimed that Tammy is the subject of interested from Aston Villa. The West Midlands club will compete with his former club Chelsea for his signature next year.

Meanwhile, the English international has been linked with Arsenal as well. Abraham is reportedly valued at £45 million, and it remains to be seen whether the West Midlands club can secure his services. Abraham previously played for Aston Villa during a loan spell from Chelsea.

Unai Emery could certainly use more quality and depth in the attack. They have been overly reliant on Ollie Watkins, and the England international needs more support in the attack. Meanwhile, the English international is popular in the transfer market, with Chelsea and Arsenal keen on signing him.

Abraham could share the goalscoring burden with Watkins at Aston Villa or replace him if he joins the club. Furthermore, he knows the club well having played for them in the past and should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact.

Abraham’s transfer to Roma has been a success, and the opportunity to return to England could prove to be hard to turn down for him. The former Chelsea striker has scored 36 goals for the Italian club in his last two seasons. There is no doubt that he could prove to be a useful acquisition for most Premier League clubs. So, it remains to be seen where he ends up.

Meanwhile, Chelsea need more depth in the attack as well. They signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal this past summer. But the Senegalese international needs more support in the attack. The Blues failed to find the back of the net consistently last season and will have to solve that problem if they want to get back into the Champions League and compete for major trophies. Abraham could partner Jackson if he returns to his boyhood club.

Both Aston Villa and Chelsea have the financial resources to pay £45 million for the striker, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. Villa have put together an impressive squad under Emery and they are competing in Europe now. They could pose a strong threat to Chelsea in the pursuit of the English striker.
