Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal keen on Nico Williams

Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal are alert to Nico Williams’ situation at Athletic Club as the winger is yet to commit his future.

According to 90 Min, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Nico Williams ahead of the January window. The Premier League trio, among other big sides, are alert to the 21-year-old La Liga attacker’s contract situation, as he’s yet to commit to his future at Athletic Club.

Nico Williams continues to puzzle many interested clubs with his future call. The 21-year-old La Liga attacker is yet to commit his future at Athletic Club, which has put a host of top clubs on high alert about the possibility of a January transfer.

Aston Villa and Barcelona were dealt a blow with the news of Williams reportedly willing to sign a contract at Athletic Club. The duo had sensed an opportunity ahead of January to bypass the €50 million release clause and acquire the promising attacker on the cheap.

Williams’ current contract expires next summer, which has put pressure on Athletic Club ahead of the next window. However, Club President John Uriarte seemed relaxed with his approach and feels the attacker would commit his future at the club.

He said, “We feel calm about that. We think he’s going to extend and stay with us, this will happen. We want an attractive project, feeling sure that Nico Williams will be part of that for many years to come.”

Yet, as Williams has not signed that deal yet, there are chances these clubs could make a serious push if the situation remains the same. Liverpool had been in contact with the entourage of the 21-year-old attacker, with Jurgen Klopp a big fan of his profile.

They are alert to options in case Mohamed Salah ends up leaving the club for Saudi Arabia. There are other names, but if they can strike a cheap deal for Williams, they will make the move. Similarly, Tottenham are also keen as they are looking at some options in the window for a left-sided wide attacker.

Williams certainly fits that bill, with Ange Postecoglou looking to add a new dimension to his attack from the wing position. Richarlison has played there for the majority of games but remains a somewhat unconvincing option there.

Finally, Arsenal who are in the market for a winger. Pedro Neto remains their primary target for the position, but due to Williams’ availability, they might change their priorities. Mikel Arteta could dip into the market for a player of that profile, but there are complications about signing the 21-year-old Athletic Club star.

For now, Williams seems open to extending his contract, which may happen after all. With Athletic Club keen, there were reports that the €50 million release clause would remain intact or possibly increase fractionally. Hence, even if the winger signs the new deal, the interested clubs could still sign him for a relatively decent sum in the current market climate.
