Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly provide stiff competition to Real Madrid in the race to sign 24-year-old AC Milan talisman Rafael Leao.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Rafael Leao is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The 24-year-old is also a target for Real Madrid and several other high-profile clubs. Meanwhile, AC Milan will likely find it difficult to keep hold of the talismanic attacker beyond the summer transfer window.
Rafael Leao has established himself as one of the best attackers in Serie A since joining AC Milan from LOSC Lille in August 2019. The Portuguese international had struggled to stamp his authority at Sporting CP and Lille. But the move to San Siro has brought the best out of him, transforming his career.
The 24-year-old was the catalyst in AC Milan ending a long wait to win the Serie A title in the 2021/22 season. Meanwhile, Leao has started the 2023/24 campaign well, managing three goals and four assists in ten appearances. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Lille attacker has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a long time. They also considered securing Leao’s services in the summer transfer window before a move failed to materialise. But the interest has not waned, with Real Madrid still interested in landing the player.
But it is unclear how Leao might fit into the scheme of things at the Santiago Bernabeu. With Vinicius Junior nailed on as the first-choice left-winger, the Merengues do not need another player for the position. But the 24-year-old Serie A winner remains on Real Madrid’s radar, with Paris Saint-Germain now joining the race.
At PSG, Kylian Mbappe’s long-term future is uncertain, with Real Madrid lining up a Bosman move for next summer. So, it behoves PSG to scour the market for an explosive attacker who can fill Mbappe’s void. Leao has thus emerged as a viable target for the reigning La Liga champions.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese international is also a target for several high-profile Premier League clubs. So, it will be interesting to see where the 24-year-old lands amid interest from Real Madrid, PSG, and others.
