Agent hints at Liverpool interest in Piero Hincapie

Piero Hincapie’s agent confirmed Liverpool’s summer interest in the defender and hinted at a future move for the Bayer Leverkusen star.

According to Bolavip via Sport Witness, Piero Hincapie’s agent, Manuel Sierra, Liverpool were reportedly interested in the defender in the summer. The representative insisted new talks were ongoing to determine the defender’s future and hinted at a move in the future.

In football language, ‘future’ could be the next window, which in this case is January. Piero Hincapie has seen his stock rise since moving to Bayer Leverkusen in 2021. The defender has become one of their important players and even signed a new deal back in February of this year.

Hence, Leverkusen were in no rush to sell the Ecuadorian during the summer and could maintain their stance ahead of the January window. The Bundesliga side have had a fantastic start to the season. They did so without the 22-year-old defender, who missed the first three games through a suspension.

Hincapie harbours lofty ambitions for the future and would certainly like a move to a big club. His agent, Manuel Sierra, confirmed Liverpool’s interest during the summer window. He also hinted at a future move, suggesting fresh talks have taken place since and pointed towards a potential price tag of €50 million.

Sierra said, “Liverpool had an interest in him, but at that time they chose to invest in the midfield.” “For January they are talking like other clubs, it will not be less than €50 million.”

Liverpool had eyes for a new left-footed defender during the summer, but their plans saw changes once Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left the club. Then, Jurgen Klopp focused on rebuilding his midfield and looked away from the idea of shoring up the backline.

Liverpool are the only top-six team without a left-footed centre-back in their ranks, and Klopp wants to address the issue. There are links to Goncalo Inacio among other players, which shows the manager seems to want a player of that profile.

Hincapie fits the bill, and Liverpool might return in the January window with a good offer. Whether they go near that €50 million asking price remains the question. If they decide against it, then Leverkusen will refuse to sell the 22-year-old Bundesliga defender.
