Jamie Carragher claims Arsenal will not win the Premier League with Aaron Ramsdale in goal

Jamie Carragher has claimed Arsenal will not win the Premier League with Aaron Ramsdale in goal amid all the chatter surrounding the keeper.

The Aaron Ramsdale topic continues to dominate media chatter, and on Wednesday, many outlets could get their views in on the keeper. Mikel Arteta chose David Raya over the England international for Arsenal’s return to the Champions League.

The Gunners did generally fine without their regular stopper as the attacking players put on a show as they thrashed PSV Eindhoven 4-0 at the Emirates. While those stars received praise, the focus was truly on Ramsdale as some outlets tried to force the issue, showing the England international as a sad figure on the bench.

Arteta has maintained his stance on it and believes we are in a time and age when goalkeepers could see rotations in games. Former Premier League keeper Shaka Hislop slammed Arteta for his decision on Ramsdale and feels that kind of things are unstainable for any team.

Ramsdale has done everything correctly in the time he was Arsenal’s No.1, but Raya seems like a more polished option to have. In Arteta’s defence, he has rather thought it wise to give the Spaniard some game time rather than becoming a permanent fixture on the bench.

While those two continue to divide opinion, Raya has done nothing wrong in the two games he has played in the gap of a few days. He also kept two clean sheets, something Ramsdale has struggled with over his time in the team. In the ensuing days of Raya’s debut, the media has already linked the England star to other clubs.

Now, Jamie Carragher has opined on the situation and made a bold claim stating Arsenal will not win the league with Ramsdale in goal. His comments appeared while covering the Champions League with CBS Sports and stuck with his assessments.

Carragher said, “100 per cent! Arsenal will never win the league with Ramsdale in goal. No chance! Ramsdale is playing for Arsenal, he can’t even get into the England team.”

Whether or not those comments bear any value with regard to Arsenal’s title chances seems doubtful. Ramsdale, like any other keeper in the world, has had off games. But nothing to suggest he was off the charts and consistently cost Arsenal points last season.

If anything, the Englishman, who joined Arsenal for £24 million, made some crucial stops throughout the season that kept Arsenal in the title race until the very end. However, with Raya in the side, the England international may feel threatened, although the Spaniard has only played two games so far.

The coming weeks or months will show what Arteta truly intends with his goalkeeping position. For now, Raya may continue to start in goal, especially against Tottenham at the weekend. If that trend continues, Ramsdale could grow frustrated and potentially seek an exit next summer, but nothing to suggest the same right now.
