Levi Colwill may have named Adam Lallana as the player who influenced his decision to stay and continue at Chelsea.
The future of Levi Colwill was a massive subject for Chelsea to manoeuvre, as they may have come close to losing the promising defender during the summer. After a promising loan at Brighton last season, Roberto De Zerbi urged his club to attempt to sign him permanently.
Chelsea rejected their offer and possibly a second for the 20-year-old defender. Brighton soon realised there was no chance of signing the defender, but there were still doubts about whether Colwill would remain at Chelsea beyond the summer window.
Colwill even rejected a contract offer from the Blues as the club kept the negotiation channels open with the defender. Finally, he agreed to a six-year deal and prolong his career at Stamford Bridge. Since the current season began, the 20-year-old has become an important part of Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Before he penned the new deal, Liverpool were also keen on Colwill, but they were expected to fail had they made an offer to Chelsea. The Blues have shown they were willing to sell some of their notable players, and they sure did, but not Colwill.

As Colwill got a full call-up from Gareth Southgate, he faced the media ahead of a possible entry into England’s matchday squad against Ukraine on Saturday. Meanwhile, during that press conference, the 20-year-old potentially hinted that Adam Lallana may have played a role in his decision to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Colwill said, “I have had conversations with Adam.” “And he told me about how much of a good guy he (Pochettino) was, and he thinks he is a really good manager, and I took that on board when I was making my decision.”
“When I finally met him (Pochettino), I realized everything Adam said was true.” “He is a great manager, really makes me feel comfortable and allows me to play my best game.” “I think the big thing for me is, on the first day I came in, putting an arm around me and showing me that he respects me as a person and also as a player.”
Colwill could have a great future, particularly if he grows in stature for Chelsea and England this season. There’s also a real chance to make it into Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad next summer, and Pochettino must play him regularly.
