Real Madrid keeping tabs on Takefusa Kubo

Real Madrid might look to re-sign Takefusa Kubo, whose release clause is worth €60 million, from fellow La Liga club Real Sociedad.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Takefusa Kubo is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are considering re-signing the Japanese international from fellow La Liga club Real Sociedad. And while his release clause is worth €60 million, Real Madrid can secure his services for €30 million.

Takefusa Kubo had to bide his time before becoming one of the best players in La Liga. But the move to Real Sociedad has set him free, enabling him to play more freely than he did during his loan spells away from Real Madrid between 2019 and 2022.

The 22-year-old, who previously spent four years in Barcelona’s fabled La Masia setup, joined Real Madrid from FC Tokyo in July 2019. After that, he embarked on four loan spells away from the Santiago Bernabeu. But after failing to establish a foothold in the Real Madrid first-team squad, he joined Real Sociedad last summer.

La Real paid just €6.5 million to sign him from fellow La Liga club Real Madrid. And the outlay has paid off already, with Kubo performing excellently in the last 12 months. The Japanese winger amassed nine goals and nine assists in 44 appearances across all competitions in the 2022/23 campaign.

Kubo has seemingly taken his performances up a level at the onset of the 2023/24 season. And he has three goals and one assist in four appearances thus far this term. The player’s three strikes have left him behind only Jude Bellingham in the top scorers’ list in La Liga. And the youngster’s performances have captured the attention of Real Madrid.

The Merengues have closely monitored Kubo’s progress at Real Sociedad since last season. And the player’s strong start to the 2023/24 campaign has alerted Real Madrid further. The latest report claims that Real Madrid might look to re-sign him next year. And they will not have to pay the entire amount of his release clause of €60 million.

Instead, with Real Madrid having a 50% sell-on clause, they can re-sign the 22-year-old for €30 million. So Kubo is an attractive target for Los Blancos, especially considering Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes are the only long-term options for them in the offensive unit.
