West Ham United are set to make an approach for Ibrahim Sangare, with a transfer only possible based on specific criteria.
According to Football Insider, West Ham United are keen on Ibrahim Sangare and could approach PSV Eindhoven regarding a move. The Dutch side is vying for Champions League qualification and any departure for the £32 million-rated midfield powerhouse will depend on that and his price tag.
Ibrahim Sangare has somehow stayed at PSV Eindhoven despite a host of clubs keeping track of the midfielder since last summer. Some big Premier League sides have monitored his situation, but none have come forward with a viable approach.
As per the report, Nottingham Forest has approached, but their offer of a season-long loan with a buy obligation comes nowhere near PSV’s asking price. The £32 million-rated midfield powerhouse has a release clause for the same amount, although they could compromise for a bit lower.
Liverpool were also keen on the midfielder at one stage, but their acquisition of Wataru Endo must have closed the position for now. West Ham United are the side now showing keen interest in the midfielder, as they could make an approach as per the report.
The Hammers lost former captain Declan Rice to Arsenal but have compensated by bringing Edson Alvarez from PSV’s rivals Ajax. They have also brought in James Ward-Prowse and could angle a move for another holding midfielder in Sangare if the conditions are right.
West Ham are also closing in on Mohammed Kudus as their marquee signing this summer, which could strengthen their team and make them a top-six challenger. Adding Sangare to the mix will bring the necessary depth to their midfield, something David Moyes will want with the number of games they might play with the Europa League also on their roster.
However, they might have to wait until the end of this transfer window to find out if the £32 million-rated midfield powerhouse becomes available. The criteria here will depend on PSV’s fate in the Champions League qualification round, and if they go through, the chances of keeping Sangare are high.
Moreover, West Ham must also meet their asking price for the defender, as PSV might give some concessions by accepting a little less than his £32 million release clause.
