Hakim Ziyech closing in on Galatasaray switch

Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech is on the verge of joining Turkish club Galatasaray after successfully completing his medical.

According to Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, Galatasaray are closing in on the signatures of Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech. The 30-year-old winger has been linked with a move away from the London club throughout the summer but things have not worked out. But finally, he could be on his way to the Turkish club.

Ziyech was at the peak of his powers while playing for Ajax back in the day. The Moroccan international was a consistent performer for the Dutch club, and he had done wonders for them in the UEFA Champions League.

His consistent performances resulted in a €40 million move to Chelsea in the summer of 2020. But, things have not gone according to plan since making the move to England. He has failed to live up to the expectations and has gone down the pecking order over the years.

The 30-year-old did not get enough minutes at club level last season. Everyone expected things to change after his heroics at the FIFA World Cup 2022 as he guided Morocco to the semi-finals. But, things were the same as he featured in a total of 29 matches and was on the pitch for less than 1,000 minutes.

With the kind of signings Chelsea have done in the ongoing transfer window, he is expected to go further down the pecking order. And, he seems to be surplus to requirements at the English club. Despite having two years left on his deal, a move in the ongoing window seems to be the best option for all parties involved.

Ziyech has already seen a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Nassr fall off. But, he could finally have a new home in Galatasaray. The Turkish club have been pushing hard for his services of late and they already have an agreement in place with the London club.

With Nicolo Zaniolo set to join Aston Villa, Galatasaray are looking to bolster their attack, and they believe Ziyech has what it takes to help their cause. He is exceptional on the ball, has a dangerous left foot, is creative in nature and can surely be a threat coming in from the right.

With all parties in agreement over a potential transfer, Galatasaray Club Doctor Yener İnce travelled to England for the Moroccan player’s medical. And, according to Sabuncuoğlu, the medical has been successfully completed. With almost everything sorted, there could be an official confirmation of the transfer in the coming days.
