Tottenham weigh up Yannick Carrasco swoop

Tottenham are considering a move for Yannick Carrasco as Ange Postecoglou could shore up the left side with the versatile Belgian.

According to Fichajes, Tottenham are weighing up a move for Yannick Carrasco to shore up their squad. Ange Postecoglou is reportedly seeking a left-sided player with versatile quality, with the 29-year-old La Liga-winning wide man ticking many boxes.

Tottenham are getting active in the transfer window with each passing day, and they will likely conduct many deals before the deadline. They have already lined up Micky van de Ven to shore up their backline while waiting on developments on the Harry Kane sale.

The England striker remains a key part of the team, and Tottenham will largely benefit from him staying here. However, the funds generated with a sale could also help Ange Postecoglou to bring new stars to shore up different positions, including the striker role.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou may look to shore up his left side with another player, despite the potential arrival of van de Ven. He might look for versatility from this new player, and Yannick Carrasco was linked. Spurs may have wanted the 29-year-old former La Liga-winning wide man before, but they could make a concrete approach this time.

The report reckons the two clubs may have started talks over a transfer. But they cannot confirm it now. Carrasco can play multiple roles on the left side, including becoming a new left-back option. Tottenham lack quality options on the left, which were further depleted with the departure of Ivan Perisic.

They do have Destiny Udogie as their new left-back, but Sergio Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon are underwhelming options. Moreover, Carrasco can play a role similar to Perisic and often keep switching positions depending on the game plan.

Tottenham are also aware of possible interest from others in Carrasco from domestic rivals. Newcastle United had an interest as they are yet to finalise a new left-back. They could yet jump at the chance for the 29-year-old La Liga star owing to his experience in the Champions League and Spain.

Similarly, Barcelona were keen to sign him and could make a move if they wanted to get a replacement for Jordi Alba. They could also move Alejandro Balde to the wings further forward and incorporate a new full-back in the lines of Carrasco. For now, Tottenham may only ponder over Carrasco, but he remains a realistic option for them to consider. Much will depend on Atletico Madrid’s asking price for the versatile wide man.
